Alison Hardcastle is an illustrator, designer, book artist and printmaker making handmade books, prints, screenprinted cards and general screenprinted bits and pieces sold in various galleries and shops throughout the UK. (See Stockists) Based near York, Alison works from her studio at home and her print studio nearby.
Alison finds inspiration in words, phrases, language, the oddities of
other people, colour, pattern, structures & buildings, cities, the
countryside, car boot sales, signs, collections, type, personal
experience and finding ways of collecting, recording and documenting all
of the above.
She’s also very fond of afternoon tea.
As a member of the illustration and artists’ book collective Lucky
Dip, Alison exhibits her work at a number of book fairs. The collective
consists of a small group of like-minded illustrators and book artists
who share a love of making fun and affordable original handmade books,
cards, badges and printed matter.
They can often be found peddling their wares at various book fairs
across the UK. See news for forthcoming events.
Alongside her freelance work, Alison teaches on both the BA and MA
illustration courses at Edinburgh College of Art.
She also runs workshops and weekend classes in artists’ books and
bookbinding for all ages.
Alison has done a number of commissions for bespoke hand printed stationery and also editioral and design work. She welcomes all enquiries regarding commissions.
